Higher Education Qualifications – Degrees, Certificates & Diplomas

Associate Degree

  • Study Time – 2 years
  • Prior Learning Required – Year 12 or equivalent, Certificate III or Certificate IV

An Associate Degree can be a pathway to a Bachelor Degree or Advanced Diploma.  As a Student the shorter study time can assist  you with the basics and foundations in your field of study and is helpful for those who are already working in the field who wish to gain a better understanding without completing a Bachelor Degree. This  course will give the broad theory and practical knowledge to help with career development.

Bachelor Degree

  • Study Time – 3 to 5 years (depending on program)
  • Prior Learning Required – Year 12 or equivalent, Certificate III or Certificate IV

The Bachelor Degree is the fundamental qualification for entry to a field. This course will equip you with the principles and knowledge you need to work in your chosen field. You can pursue Post Graduate Studies once you have completed your Bachelor Degree.

Bachelor Degree (Honours)

  • Study Time – 4 years
  • Prior Learning Required – Bachelor Degree

If you excel in your chosen field of study your educational provider may offer you an additional year of study in which to complete your studies to enable you to graduate with honours.

Graduate Certificate

  • Study Time – 6 months
  • Prior Learning Required – Bachelor Degree

After your undergraduate studies you may wish to broaden your skills or broaden your knowledge in a new area, this is when you can undertake a Graduate Certificate.

Graduate Diploma

  • Study Time- 1 year
  • Prior Learning Required – Bachelor Degree

A Graduate Diploma will give you the knowledge required for you to undertake professional or highly skilled work  as a pathway for further learning.

Masters Degree (Coursework)

  • Study Time – 1 to 2 years
  • Prior Learning Required – Bachelor Degree (Honours) or Bachelor Degree

A Masters Degree (coursework) involves conventional coursework that will develop your knowledge and expertise in your chosen field. You can take a Masters Degree either one year after a Bachelor Degree (With Honours) or two years after a Bachelor Degree.

Masters Degree (Research)

  • Study Time – Approx.  2 years
  • Prior Learning Required – Bachelor Degree (Honours) or Bachelor Degree

A Masters Degree is a course of independent research that will advance your position as an expert in your field.

Doctoral Degree

  • Study Time – Normally 3 to 4 years
  • Prior Learning Required – Masters Degree

A Doctoral Degree is the highest award offered by Australian universities. Research is the main element of the course, but some can include coursework. There are three components of your Doctoral Degree:

  • A review of literature, experimentation or other methodical approach to a body of knowledge.
  • An original research project that underwrites the understanding and knowledge in your chosen field.

A disciplined and well-ordered thesis that shows a relationship between the research and the field of study.
