Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)

The Skilled Visa Nominated (subclass 190) is similar to the Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189).It allows skilled workers to live and work in Australia as permanent residents. However, where it differs is this is a “sponsored” Visa.  A sponsored visa is one in which a State or Territory in Australia will sponsor the applicant to come and live in their state or territory for a minimum of two years. There are 8 states or territories in Australia which can sponsor applicants. 

  • Australian Capital Territory
  • New South Wales
  • Northern Territory
  • Queensland
  • South Australia
  • Tasmania
  • Victoria
  • Western Australia

Each of the state or territory governments have their own criteria for selecting which of the applications they will accept for consideration and the invitation to apply. 

Who is eligible for this visa?
This visa has a point system to ascertain suitability.  There are a number of factors that contribute to the viability of the candidate and below are some of the areas in which the application may be assessed.

  • Age of the applicant
  • English language skills
  • Overseas skilled employment – (outside Australia)
  • Australian skilled employment – (in Australia)
  • Educational qualifications
  • Australian study requirement
  • Partner skills

Entitlements
You will be a permanent resident and subject to criteria, you and the family members on your visa can apply for Australian Citizenship.  You may also sponsor other family members for permanent residency.  You must live and work in state or territory which sponsored you for at least 2 years. You can also access Medicare and are entitled to all the workers rights and privileges under Australian laws.
