About this visa
There are 2 variations of this visa. One is a Graduate Work Stream and the other is Post-Study Work stream. You must meet the specific requirements for this visa as well as the standard character and health checks for all visas.
Graduate Work Stream
This visa allows you to stay in Australia for up to 18 months and is for recently graduated students. You will need to have specific qualifications and skillsets to apply for this visa. There is a list of occupations that have the skillset required, these are on the Skills Occupation List. You must also find your own employment to be eligible for this visa. You cannot stay in Australia for more than 18 months on this visa, but you may be entitled to apply for a Skilled Workers visa.
On this visa you can live, study and work in Australia for the length of your visa. There are no restrictions for your travel in and out of Australia at any time during the duration of the visa.
Post-Study Work Stream
This visa is for students who graduated with a degree from an Australian institution. This degree will need to be a recent CRICOS-registered course You will be allowed to stay in Australia for between 2 to 4 years after you have finished studying. You are free to travel, work or study in Australia whilst you have a valid visa. A requirement of this visa is that you must find your own employment.
This is a temporary visa and the length of stay is determined by the degree you have.
- bachelors degree – 2 years
- masters by coursework – 2 years
- masters by research – 3 years
- doctoral degree – 4 years
You cannot stay longer than the prescribed time on this visa, but you may be eligible to apply for a skilled workers visa.
Who is eligible for this visa?
- be under 50 years of age
- have a recent qualification in a CRICOS-registered course
