Program Overview
As an international engineering graduate, completing the Professional Year equips you with the skills, knowledge, and industry exposure necessary to secure a job in your field. This program isn’t just a course—it’s your pathway into the engineering profession in Australia. Over a duration of 44 weeks, the program combines classroom learning and industry placement to help you:

Program Structure
The Professional Year in Engineering comprises two parts:
1. Classroom Training (32 weeks)
- Practical and interactive face-to-face learning tailored to develop skills for the Australian professional environment.
2. Internship Placement (12 weeks)
- A full-time, unpaid internship with an Australian engineering company. The placement aligns with your engineering discipline, providing hands-on experience in your field.
Eligibility Requirements
To join the program, you must meet the following criteria:
1. Educational Requirements
- An engineering degree at the Technologist or Professional Engineer level, completed within four years of application, with a minimum of two years (94 weeks) study duration.
- Academic transcripts, including your Australian bachelor’s degree or higher. If your Australian degree isn’t in engineering, you’ll need to provide transcripts from your overseas engineering degree.
- The degree must be recognised under the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
2. Visa Requirements
- A valid or pending visa, such as:
Skilled Graduate (Temporary) 485 visa
Bridging Visa A or C for an eligible visa type
Skilled Recognised Graduate 476 visa
Bridging Visa A or C for an eligible visa type
Skilled Recognised Graduate 476 visa
- Full work and study rights with at least 12 months remaining on your visa when the program begins.
- For 485 visa holders, you must have nominated an engineering ANZSCO code for migration purposes.
- Note: Student 500 visas are not accepted.
3. English Language Proficiency
- Submit valid test results from IELTS, PTE, or TOEFL with scores meeting program requirements.
4. Migration Skills Assessment (MSA)
- Provide proof of a successful MSA outcome from Engineers Australia or a tax receipt for your pending application. Completion of the program requires a successful MSA outcome.
Migration Points
Upon program completion, you’ll be eligible to apply for five migration points under an eligible skilled occupation. However, completion of the Professional Year does not guarantee permanent residency.

Additional Information
- The program is full-fee paying and not covered by HECS.
- Australian citizens and permanent residents who are recent graduates are also eligible to apply.
