You may also explore the Visitor (subclass 600) visa in the Tourist stream , which permits people to holiday in Australia in order to spend time with family and friends without sponsorship.
Cruise
If you embark in Australia as part of a cruise, then you will require a visa. For round-the-world cruises, the time spent on the cruise counts toward time in Australia, so it doesn't 'reset' your stay period for the visa. Check with the cruise operator or travel agent who sold it to you to see if it is classified as round trip.
Duration of Stay
It is a temporary visa that can last up to 12 months. The length of your visa will depend on each case considering:
- Your intended length of stay
- The purpose of your visit to Australia
Please bear in mind that it's also important to remember that the full length of stay requested may not be granted. In this case, ordinary occurrences with this visa usually mean that one is only given a single entry, hence after leaving Australia, you would have to apply all over again to come back.
Staying Longer
You cannot extend your stay in Australia with this visa; you must apply for a new visa instead. Since your visa includes condition 8503, "No Further Stay," you cannot apply for a new visa while in Australia, although you may request a waiver under limited circumstances.
Ensure you do not breach condition 8531, which prohibits remaining in Australia beyond your visa's expiration.
